چکیده

We describe a surgical arthroscopic treatment for popliteal cyst in a series of 30 patients, with a mean follow-up of 32 months. The treatment consists of a cure for the intra-articular pathology of the knee associated with popliteal cysts, and the contemporaneous correction of the valvular mechanism responsible for the formation and reoccurrence of popliteal cyst. The popliteal cyst in adults was found to be almost invariably associated with other knee disorders. In all of the cases studied, a connection between joint space and cyst was found. Arthroscopy allowed the treatment of almost all of the associated knee disorders and the removal of anatomic structures imposing the one-way passage of fluid from the joint space into the cyst. Two years after the treatment, we observed optimal or good clinical results in 95% of the patients treated.

Baker’s Cyst

CONTEXT Popliteal synovial cysts, also known as Baker's cysts, are commonly found in association with intra-articular knee disorders, such as osteoarthritis and meniscus tears. Histologically, the cyst walls resemble synovial tissue with fibrosis evident, and there may be chronic nonspecific inflammation present. Osteocartilaginous loose bodies may also be found within the cyst, even if they ar...

Treatment of baker cyst, by using open posterior cystectomy and supine arthroscopy on recalcitrant cases (103 knees)

BACKGROUND Associated joint disorders with popliteal cysts were stated approximately between the ranges of 41-83 % in all reported cases. Combined treatment strategies that eliminate intra-articular pathologies and cyst- associated valve mechanisms are thought to be a good option in treatment of the disease. In this study, our main objective is to present clinical results of our combined treatm...

Selected cases of arthroscopic treatment of popliteal cyst with associated intra-articular knee disorders primary report.

INTRODUCTION The goal of the reported study was an evaluation of results, obtained in the treatment of knee joints with intraarticular pathologies, concomitant with cysts in the popliteal fossa. We hypothesized that removal of popliteal cyst and associated pathology will provide improvement in function, pain of operated knee and patient satisfaction. MATERIAL AND METHODS There were 10 patient...

Pigmented Villonodular Synovitis Presenting as a Popliteal Cyst

INTRODUCTION Pigmented villonodular synovitis is an uncommon disease characterized by hyperplastic synovium, large effusions and bone erosions. It commonly mimics other conditions. As a result, the diagnosis may remain elusive, as the classic signs of tenderness and effusion are not specific. Occasionally, PVNS presents as a popliteal cyst, which may divert attention from intra-articular pathol...
